What is in Rancho Mirage water
Rancho Mirage is one of what Coachella Valley Water District calls its Cove Communities, along with Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta and Thousand Palms, where we are based. Its water is pumped from wells drilled into the aquifer under the valley floor.
CVWD’s water quality report lists hardness for the Cove Communities anywhere from 8.4 to 310 mg/L, averaging 120. That range is wide, which is one reason we look at your tile before we price it.

How calcium removal works
For calcium removal, we typically lower the water about one foot below the tile line rather than draining the entire pool. The method is matched to your tile, whether it is ceramic, glass or stone. If your pool has not been fully drained in three years or more, we recommend a full drain.
Community and HOA pools
Rancho Mirage has a lot of shared pools: community pools, clubhouse spas, and HOA fountains and water features. If you manage more than one, tell us how many you look after and we’ll quote them together. We invoice commercial and HOA accounts.
Frequently asked questions
- Who supplies the water in Rancho Mirage?
- Coachella Valley Water District. Rancho Mirage is one of its Cove Communities, served from wells into the groundwater aquifer under the valley floor. CVWD’s report lists the Cove Communities’ average hardness at 120 mg/L.
- Will it hurt glass mosaic or stone tile?
- We match the method to the tile: ceramic, glass and stone each get a different approach, which is why we look before we quote. Existing damage, worn grout or loose tile may become more noticeable during cleaning. We will explain any concerns and quote repairs separately.
- Can you clean a spillway or a raised spa wall?
- Yes. The before and after on this page is a blue mosaic spillway with white calcium streaks down its face, and the pool was not drained for it. Once the scale came off, the original blues were back.
